The Chinhoyi Superstars were a Zimbabwean band formed by Moyo Tembo, brother of the late Biggie Tembo from the Bhundu Boys.

Legend has it that Biggie Tembo found a battered old guitar in a skip in Glasgow one night after a Bhundu Boys concert. He rescued it and took it home to Zimbabwe for his brother Moyo, who then formed a new group called The Chinhoyi Superstars, named of course after the area of Chinhoyi in Zimbabwe where they come from.

They soon released their debut single Woiteyiko, produced by Steve Roskilly and big brother Biggie, Ishe Mangamuripi being the B-side.

The song tells of the importance of praying to God and received Radio 1 airplay from both John Peel and Andy Kershaw. It was a cracking debut single, upbeat and uplifting with Moyo putting his brother’s gift to great use and things looked promising for the young Zimbabweans.

Sadly, this was the only single that the group ever released, unless anyone out there knows different!?
